Thursday, March 05, 2009Stock Market Video Analysis 3/5/09

My buddy Joe from UPSIDETRADER has been more right about the financials than ANYONE, even Meredith Whitney. It is one thing to call it (as Meredith has) and completely different to TRADE it. Much respect for Joe.

When it feels as bad is it does in the market I could not help but break my guidelines (there are no rules) and get a little long near the close. I am actually hoping the market gaps lower, I have plenty of ammo for any potential reversal but bought some "just in case" upside exposure. There is ZERO technical evidence of a turn, but I smell fear. I do not want to encourage anyone to do anything reckless with their money, we are still in a vicious bear market. Small share size and risk management will keep you in the game when you make mistakes (and we all do).

Still No Bullish Clues
even on the charts for just today, looks like we are going lower still. Only a big volume push above those VWAPs would change my opinion for today.

No Signs
of the bottom that so many people are looking for. Would be great to see a high volume flush still.

What Stocks Are Worth
I rarely think the market is right. I believe non dividend stocks aren’t much more than baseball cards. They are worth what you can convince someone to pay for it.

Short Term Improvements
but the market is broken and all rallies should be viewed as trading opportunities only.

Very Long Term Fiboncacci Dow Jones
I personally do not place any emphasis on 5448, it will be interesting to see if the market is attracted to that level before this bear market is over.

This is not a forecast, just an interesting observation.

Thanks to the reader (Dmitry) who sent me THIS ARTICLE which got me to look at the Dow this way.

Wednesday, March 4, 2009Hero of the day: Doug Kass?!
I have been closely following Doug Kass, a Street.com commentator who is red hot today for his gutty rally call. Jim Cramer is kissing his ass all day, and other small potatoes at Realmoney follow. But the truth is, Doug Kass called a rally on Feb 17Th, 10 days ago and 10% above the current price. He used the phrase "longest I have been in almost three years". Since then, he has been saying "having been net short for several years - I am now all in long" at Twitter. On Feb 27Th, he said "s and p futures hitting sell stop levels now ", a follower asked if he referred the general market or his own position, he did not answer. He disappeared for several more days until his prediction finally becomes correct today.

After 10 down days, 1 up day is normal; after 180 pts dive, a 33 pts bounce is expected. Why suddenly he is the hero? He would be a hero if the market gains back where it stood on Feb 17Th, he would be even a bigger hero if the market keeps rally afterwards. But certainly not right now, 1st correctness after 10 consecutive wrongness. It shows how pathetic and ignorance the financial professionals are at Thestreet.com. Bash them, I say!

Sunday, March 1, 2009Fear
Over the weekend, Warren Buffett was no question under the spotlight. The negativity of all the headlines is intensifying the fear in the air. Also on Monday morning, HSBC announced to sell $17billion of shares, even worse is that HSBC plans to announce a two-for-five rights issue, priced at about 300 pence a share, almost 40 percent below the stock’s closing price of 491.25 pence in London on Feb. 27! Currently HSBC is halted in HK trading session. Maybe the fear and the coming volatility is all we need to put a solid floor.

Summary of Feb, 09

What went wrong? I made some long bets highlighted with red color from Feb 4-11 and got stopped out. It looked attempting, made me think the bottom was in. And I paid the price for it.

I feel like a fish who could not help biting the bait. Even though I escaped, I got hurt badly. Conclusion: there are lots of fake bottoming process in a bear market, I would rather being late than wrong. Looking at those trades, all losses. If I ignored the long signals, only focused on short ones, my performance would have been much better this month.

Overall, the newsletter's picks are up almost 5% or $15.85 so far this year.

A colorful tomorrow
In his annual report, Warren Buffett said America has faced bigger economic challenges in the past, including two World Wars and the Great Depression.

"Though the path has not been smooth, our economic system has worked extraordinarily well over time," Buffett wrote. "It has unleashed human potential as no other system has, and it will continue to do so. America's best days lie ahead."

I totally agree with him as human being, but disagree as an investor. If following his "buy and hold" stratergy and having bought his heroic call last Nov, you will not live through this dark time. You are out of ammo by now.

"Buy when others fear" is a good investing stratergy and works most of times. However, even most sounding method could lose its magic, which does not mean it is not good, nothing is perfect. Unfortunately it does not work quite well this time. You have to prepare yourself for the worst outcome, which Warren Buffett did not outline you, no other so called professionals ever did. And that is why I am pissed.

Major phases of a bear market
Historically, major bear markets have also followed distinct patterns.

1. First phase
There is a sharp initial fall that removes much of the 'froth' from the market.

2. Middle phase
There is a strong rally in prices for several months, which may lull some investors into thinking that the bear market is over. The rallies can be dramatic, but have lower trading volume than the initial sell-offs. And the advances tend to be concentrated on a few selected stocks, not the whole market.

3. Third phase
There is a long slow downward grind in prices, accompanied by low volume and periodic false dawns until the bear phase ends quietly as share valuations reach rock bottom. At this point, few investors from the earlier buoyant phase in the market are interested in anything other than the most conservative investments.

Which phase are we in?

Thursday, February 26, 2009No sector rotation!
All the sectors on my screen are under the declining 30 day moving average, the biotech is the latest joining the bear party. Even with recent strength from the banks, the others still want to go down. No more sector rotation, bulls have no where to hide this time.

Recent winning trades below Friday  The market was down again but a late short covering rally brought at least the Dow, Russell 2000 and S&P 500 back to the plus side. Nasdaq 100 was weak today. We had one new long and it did well today - CYRV and 3 news shorts but some of then came back up later in the day. EV, MRO and CRA. Sunday is International Women's day so best wishes to all women and have a great weekend. Thursday  The financials really are continuing to fall and that is no help to the market. There will be a meeting of a congressional body next week to talk of the mark-to-market issue and if they lift it we may see a big run up. Today we had a new short trigger and give good gains -  BTO. Wednesday  Today there was a rally but it pulled back in the afternoon. I do not think we had any new trades today but have added several more candidates to the watch list. Tuesday  Today kind of a weak attempt at a rally but no turn around for us yet - the week is not over yet! We had one new long SWKS and two new short sell entries:  SOHU andCVS. Check the ERFW conference call on Wednesday March 4th - above. Monday  Today saw over 2900 issues decline on the NYSE while under 200 advanced. In this kid of market we still had a great day with 2 longs and 4 very nice shorts. Check the blog as it shows the VIX which is now at a trend line from last Autumn. These wer today's new trades: APSG and TJX long and shorts were: MYGN, CPA, UTHR and VVUS. Friday  The last trading day of February and no sign of window dressing this time. The S&P 500 is down 18.62 percent year to date. Things have not yet turned up,  however March is very often a decent month for the bulls and it starts next week. Have a great weekend. Thursday  The markets did not hold the morning bounce but even so we have a new month coming and I am more short term bullish than bearish. On the long side today we had 2 new buys, KONG and GPI while one short AGU added to the  profitable day. All three were added to the watch  list yesterday. Wednesday  Consolidation Wednesday after reversal yesterday and Obama yet again went on TV to spoil the afternoon rise. Maybe he could get a job instead of the TV spots. Anyway it is the end of the month window dressing time and it is possible that they will try a bit. At the moment until  the move from Tuesday is totally undone we expect the market to continue higher for some time. Today we had only one new long and it gave us $3 but gave much back later but if you take at leased partial profits quickly on good moved you do well. - DNA, Tuesday  Many of us who write stock market newsletters are shaking their heads at many things that [size=-1]Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke said in testimony to the US Senate Banking Committee. One thing especially was, “no one understood the magnitude of the credit boom and bust.”  When will the government finally get rid of the Fed? It is a private corporation that was set up to keep a stable economy - duh - fire them . To say that no one understood the magnitude is beyond belief. How many times has Butch Colley written about this in the Newsletter - many times.  It has been documented and warned of for several  years so why do they not fire [size=-1]Bernanke as he has totally failed in his job. Ok - well we did get our Turn-around-Tuesday as the shorts left before the evening Obama talk and the technicals called for a bounce as we showed yesterday. Monday Fantastic day - not for the markets in general but for ou watch list stocks.  We had three new buys that did very GRS and SMN while we had 6 profitable shorts: COMS, AMX, BNI, SIMG, PAAS and WSO. Maybe the market will run up before the close Tuesday and the Obama talk at night. Friday We had a pretty good reversal as at least the Dow November low was tested. The Nasdaq closed green for the day so this is bullish for the following week. We had one new short trigger and it gave good profits.  OXY. Thursday The market bears could not drop the market yet again. It was a negative day and maybe it was only so mild because of options expiration on Friday. Pretty soon expect a pretty big move one way or the other. We had one new long trigger today and it did well. IVN. Wednesday The market was indecisive today so can go either way but the charts still show more shorts than longs. We had 5 nice short sells today - all from ones added to the list yesterday.   CEDC, CRZO, AXB, KDN and ANDE. Tuesday There were a few over 200 gainers today on the NYSE but about 2900 losers. Through all of that we had winners on both sides. Our two new  shorts that triggered and made nice profits were:  ROCK and SWY while  SLW, and KRY  were the new longs. Friday There was an announcement today that there will be an announcement next week. Rather a lame excuse to rally so the move up today was sold into and the market closed lower. We could though rally again at some point next week as the Nasdaq 100 still looks pretty good. We had a long trigger today which gave a nice profit - MDVN .  Please enjoy your long weekend as the US markets will be closed on Monday. Thursday The markets reversal late in the day was actually expected as an oversold thing but was helped by some government news on more "plans" to help the economy. Those ore usually short lived market bounces but this may continue Friday as the bears may now be a bit timid very short term. Two longs triggered today - CENTA and ACS and 3 shorts AVB, ARE and WCN.  Wednesday Consolidation day so there is a chance that Thursday is a rally day. Gold was a big mover today so we will need the main market to join in. One of our movers today actually triggered yesterday but made a nice gain today. PBG and our gold stocks were HMY ands GOLD. One short was CLB. Tuesday More than a sell the news today - guess not enough details and no faith plans well be any quick fix. We may now txt the November lows but we have yet to break the January day range so could still bounce on Wednesday. Today we has only one new buy -  PBG but it gave back its gain during the afternoon. Monday The market held as traders still want to be in before the bail out ans stimulus announcements.  We had three new trades that made gains but not large ones so they may run again. EBAY, EAC and ARD. Friday The market made a good move on speculation of the stimulus and bank packages, The move may fade next week but we had a lot of good trades today and there are many good setups at least for next week. We had  10 profitable new entries today. one short was   EEV but as that is a short ETF - being short it is like being long the sector. The other new longs that triggered today include HGSI, ANW, ALB, EAT, MXB, BWP, BBG snd ONNN. Have a great weekend. Thursday The jobs report before the open may shake things up and the bank plan on Monday but will probably hear rumors on Friday. Do not expect too much from it though. Today we had a very good day with the longs. The two shorts,  DIS and PTEN  did ok to start but then reversed with the market. The longs did well -  CI, STT, CNX and ABAX.   Wednesday The markets ran up then reversed as no one really is enthused about the proposed bank and other bail out plans. Support is still holding  but all know that a break will likely lead to November low tests. We did have a  long watch list stock break above the buy price - and give a nice gain.  CF. Friday Due to travel this page and the watch list will be updated next on Wednesday after the close but check the blog for updates. Many gold pulled back some today but GSS from the watch list did well. Markets are as mentioned in the video so maybe we can find a reason next week to rally  - by Wednesday... Have a great weekend. Thursday The bulls gave up today and the breadth was almost  to 1 negative but the volume was lighter that yesterday so thee may be a recovery. Gold was the strongest so check the blog as we added several charts there, We had a nice one today with -  WDC Wednesday The FOMC left all as it was so no news there but a good window dressing day. We had some gap ups today on watch list stocks FAS, GS, MEDX and UYG but we also had 7 good buys trigger and  all made nice profits. NUE, MOT, AGU, AUXL, CVH, JACK and MHS.  Has been a super week. Tuesday The markets stay non exciting with low volume but with the economy as it is, just this action seems positive. We has a few stocks the triggered only a tiny bit that we will leave as un triggered. Others we will count look like have room to run. From today new buys were.... PLT, ALKS, ENZN and RSG.  Monday A lot of chop in the market again as the financial started off ok but then got sold again. However it was a decent day with two stocks gapping up  CPNO and HMY and 5 new watch list trades. ADI, ATHX, CLMT, EGO, CRDN and NVE. Friday A nice rally of the ows of the day with the Nasdaq, S&P 500 and Russell 2000 all closing green with the Dow trailing. This is a bit encouraging action so maybe next week we can get some more upside. Today we had more new buys that gave good profits -   NEM, UNH and SMG. Have a great weekend. Thursday Actually with a down and up and an in between for 3 days there is no way to know which way it will resolve. Candle wise suggest it will move up. However - we keep on turning out the hits and today had 5 profitable new trades. On the long side were SAI, ADTN and BAX while shorts were PRE and TLT. Wednesday A reversal of the Tuesday loses making more all back. This may be the start of a longer term rally - more that a day or two - but we need to see better volume. We had two reversal watch stocks move right away - we prefer when they  pullback 3-4 days for a better entry but buyers were anxious. Those were HRS and ILMN. The watch list new buys were -  DV, SYNA and MCCC. Tuesday The market may run down to test the November lows. As every one kind of expects it - maybe best to do it now and see if it holds. Today two stocks - MOT and HMSY gapped up a bit t but closed down. We will leave them as not triggered so we will remember to watch them if the market turns around. The 4 good short trades we had today were AAPL, V, BRK/B and AXP. T Thursday There were over 4000 losers today on the NYSE to just over 80 winners - our new buys were-  BCR, CAI, CIEN and ENDP. Wednesday The over 4000 losers today on the NYSE to just over 800 gainers. The Dow held chart support but not the S&P or the Russell 2000. We had two new short today -  MCHP and IO. Tuesday The market was in a tight range today with the Russell gaining the most. Some of our recent watch list stock have pulled back but many also continue to move higher which is encouraging that we may still see some upside in the market soon. Today we had one new buy - ANAD. Monday The market quite weak again with financials taking a big hit. We could have a bounce off short term support as shown on the blog charts but for the end of the month it looks lower. Our featured stock made gains again-i ERFW and trading over the top Bollinger bands. We has one new short today also. BBT. Friday This market heard the job numbers as about were expected but although most thought we may then rally, we fell some more and had no new break out buys today. One of our Featured stocks  ERFW ran up 105% this week for a total gain of about 175% since we highlighted it. Our other Featured stock AWSR did little this week but in the months ahead we believe it will do well also. Have a great weekend.   Thursday This market has been holding up well even with the bad economic news most days. We had 3 new shorts sells and only one of them ended the day in the red. The job numbers will be out before the open. Those shorts were: FLO, SYK and WL. Wednesday This markets started the deserved pullback so now we wait to see if the dip buyers who were waiting for an opportunity to get in lower, really will do it. Today we had one very nice new long closing up 18% -   COGO.
Tuesday This is getting silly as we had yet an additional 13 picks trigger buys today and make profits. PAAS, ACH, DDUP, AMZN,  DROOY, HIG, HRBN, MOS, DFT, ICO,, SSCC, VCI and NVLS.
Monday Yet another big day with many new longs and profits. We would think the market will pullback pretty soon but enjoy the gains on the new ones and the ones that continue to run. Two Chinese stocks gapped up today ZC and PTR while these were standard break out buys - FCSX, PCR, VLO, CEPH and NCII.
Friday What a way to start the new year - back to back fantastic days as we had 17 new buys from the watch list and all are profitable. They were LCC, WCG, SNDK SGR, STP, TRN, FLEX, ARK, DPZ, XIDE, ACI, APPY, AVT, BEC, ABAX, AFFX, and ANO. The market gains were impressive as well but low volume means we have to see how the coming dip is greeted - with or with ought aggressive buyers. Have a great weekend.
Wednesday End of year window dressing helped the performance as find managers tweaked their holdings. We had a whopping 16 stocks hit their buy points today - fantastic end of the year. Today's winners included: APKT, ADSR, AVT, BVF, CCRT, GS,  INSU, JRCC, LII, LTD, LNC, OII, PCLN, Q, SBH and BVN. Wishing all a superb 2009!
Tuesday Pretty good day with 40 minutes of rally at the end of the day to perhaps dress up some portfolios before the end of the year. We had one new buy today - TKR.
Monday Breadth was better than 2 to 1 negative for the market but it rallied at the end of the day again. We many times have said that if  gold stocks gap just wait as they usually pull back at least some and today our new gold stock picks gapped up a bit then pulled back to our buys prices. AEM, ABX, GG and and and SSRI. We had one short also -  BPOP.

Stock Tiger 15-min gap rule examples

Friday gave us two gap ups that could not be played in the normal way without more risk so here we show again the 15-min gap rule in action for these two. On these charts the candles are 5-min each so it takes 3 candles for the first 15 minutes. During that time you do not buy but only watch. If the stock keeps gong from the get go then you do not trade it. You in your head or on the chart draw two lines. One at the high point of the first 3 candles and one at the low and make you trade in the direction of the break. Usually on a gap up on good news if it does break the lower line and you short it is more often a riskier trade and experience will help you decide on this so it best on gap ups to figure you will play it only long and only if it breaks above the top line.
On the CPB chart there is also the 9-period EMA as it can often be of help in determining support areas. This stock broke above on the forth bar at about $41.40 and promptly pulled back under the bar. This is common as the "break out line" gets tested. In this case it only dropped a bit below the line and the 9-period also and in the next bar ran back up and gave $1 gain in 40 minutes. It never got much higher for the rest of the day. It is your decision how to play ones like this but one way is to treat them as an unplanned for gift so any profit is like free money.
HURC was another that gapped up on Friday and if you were not holding and wished you were you can join in if the rule works out. Here you see (oops a mistake) the line should be on top of the 3rd candles' spike high around $40.75 as that would have been your buy on the 5th candle or 25 minutes into the day. From there it rallied to a high of $43.87 so a possible $3 gain.
The idea of using this rule is it gives you a point of reference and the first 15 minute are often the most volatile as the players decide what to do. If you buy then you at least have some chart history going already and you can sell if it looks like it is not going to hold up. Paying attention to the volume is a good guide as you want to see high volume on the up times and lower on the down ones.
Also on the chart I wanted to point our how the MACD and RSI can be helpful though they are not great timing indicators they do give early warnings. Notice how after 11 AM the MACD was already going down while the stock price was going up. That indicates that a high may be coming. The RSI reached its peak over the 70 level also a bit before the stock peaked. To lighten up on positions at those times is  a pretty good idea for short term trading. With the MACD giving such negative divergence then when the stock broke the 50-period EMA at about 3 PM it would have made a good place to sell any remaining shares if you were day trading this one.
.

Tuesday, November 13, 2007
Stock
(Tue Nov 13 23:21:10 2007)

TECH
- AAPL
- GOOG
- VMW
- RIMM

CHINA
- SINA (ER approximately 11/6)
- CTRP (ER 11/7)

FINANCIALS
- GS
- MS
- NYX(ER on 11/2)
- ICE

ENTERTAINMENT & CASINO
- LVS (ER estimated 11/1)
- WYNN (ER 10/30)

OTHERS- CMG(ER on 10/30)

IMHO + YMYD

http://stockcharts.com/h-sc/ui?s=$COMPQ&p=D&yr=1&mn=0&dy=0&id=p17501316050&a=113465205

所以还是老思路:- have full faith in bull market- buy solid growth stocks on dip/consolidation- focus on large and mid cap tech

Wednesday, October 17, 2007

CTRP: http://stockcharts.com/h-sc/ui?s=CTRP&p=D&yr=1&mn=0&dy=0&id=p12140599933&a=119065726

Tuesday, October 9, 2007IBD stocks that are not yet too extended
The market is quite extended with most of the 1-tier leaders way above there 9MA and previous breakout points. I looked at the IBD 100 stocks and a few others, and found the following charts relatively less extended and might be providing some decent buy points in the next few days.

Market:
A fairly quite consolidation day for the indices as all markets saw small gain or loss on much lighter volume than yesterday and recent averages. After a somewhat crazy day last Friday, this is a positive sign as it shows the profit-taking is minimal and the uptrend is trying to stay healthy from overheating.

The True Leaders:
What a spectacular day for the horseman group -- AAPL, RIMM, GOOG, BIDU, AMZN all made decent gains from 2.4% -- 4%, easily beating the 0.3% on NAZ. These are the core team of "Sha-Bang Stocks" and you can see how they lead the markest with style. BIDU, AAPL and RIMM are all quite extended at this point and we should hold on to our long positions while be cautious to add and wait patiently till when they pullback to the 9MA. If you are not yet in these leaders, take a look at AMZN -- it is the least extended and could give opportuties to enter should the market have an intraday pullback tomorrow. FLWT is another set up that's comparatively less extended than the others.

Today's trades:
1. Sold RIMM Nov100C in the morining when stock was trading above 118. RIMM might run up another 5-10 points from here before it pulls back, but it wasn't a bad decision to lock in an almost 200% prifit on the ER-bet calls.

2. Sold VMW Oct 95 calls in the morning when stock was trading at 94.2. This was probably a little early (stock rose to 95 at close). Oct calls are highly vulnerable now as the time value is evaporating quickly. VMW is very extended and a pullback to 20MA is desired before I consider re-entering. It might just go straight up, but the risk/reward will be hard to justify.

3. Sold NYX Oct 85 and 90 calls. 200MA is right there at 84.5 and the stock closed right at it. I don't know what's gonna happen tomorrow so I just rang the cashier on it. Still kepping Nov 90 calls.

4. Bought AMZN Nov 100 calls when stock pulled back to near previous high at 94. Thanks to Littletree -- a very precise pivotal point call. A powerhouse consolidated thoroughly during the last few weeks. A pre-ER run could be underway.

Too tired today and did not sleep well last night. So I'm gonna call it a day and go to bed for now. The next couple days if we don't see heavy profit-taking in the market but only mild consolidation, it will probably mean that the market is not due for the real pullback until the big name ERs are due, which will be mid-late Oct -- near OE. I suspect that would be the case.

Thursday, October 4, 200710/04/2007

1. CMI

2. ISRG

3. NOV

4. DECK

5. FWLT

6. DRYS

7. OVTI

8. SKX

9. HURN

10. BSC

1. AAPL.

2. NYX.

4. CMI、ISRG和CROX。

Tuesday, October 2, 2007

Monday, October 1, 2007Say Goodbye to 14000
It was somewhat surprising to see the markets taking out the previous highs without much effort. But it happened just like that, and we have to give the market credit for its strength instead of overthinking this move makes sense or not -- it just happened and it is reality now.

A quick look at the leading stocks in my port:

1. AAPL. it's extended (well who isn't)? I realy would like to see a minor pullback to the 9MA and the supporting trendline near 152, but if it doesn't happen it wouldn't surprise me either. sit tight with my stocks and Nov calls.

2. FWLT. A nice breakout of the consolidation wedge. I hope to see some more volume confirming this action. A strong close above 136 and this stock can go to 150 in less than 6 trading days.

3.ISRG. I'm glad I sold my calls last week -- just not moving quickly enough to let me make money on calls. Still holding stocks. But I still think we will be seeing a 4-5 day rally to the 250 area pretty soon.

4. DRYS. Simply amazing. It's getting close to the upper trendline of the channel and shold consolidate sideways or slightly downward for a few das. Might want to cash out my calls tomorrow morning.

5. VMW. Not much TA to do with limited chart. 90 will be a resistance but anything can happen with this monster new IPO. Will just trade the momentum.

6. NYX. I like today's strong close on higher volume than yestday. The last three candles hints for a breakout from the consolidation,. We may see 85 by end of this week.

7. NILE. This one concerns me. If tomorrow we can't close above 95, we might dip down to 90 again and seek support at the 20MA.

8. SINA. Not much follow through after yesterdays reversal candle. But the chart is alright. A new high on vol and I'll add to this position. China is hot and will be for a while.

9. DSX. How can you not love the huge institutional buying volume on 9/21 and today? This stock is going to 36 quickly.

Thursday, September 27, 2007

Hold.
hold.

(2)大盘本身在9/10之前已经出现了higher high and lower low形态,并且在8/29出现了follow-through day.

Tuesday, September 25, 2007Market recap
No bad econ news could stop the NAZ from continuing its rally. This morning was a great buy on dip opportunity for a lot of the leading stocks. Right now, the tech leaders have mostly made their new highs and are the very engines that are fueling the index. AAPL, BIDU, GOOG, RIMM, GRMN and AMZN have all just made their all time highs, showing the quality of true leaders of a tech-led market. These will be the stocks that make the largest gains by the end of this bull market, which is likely to be sometime late 2008, according to the "Presidential Cycle" theory.

The strategy is quite clear now: Buy or call these leaders near the natural supports such as 9EMA and 20EMA whenever possible. Keep the OE dates in mind when playing option -- sell or "roll over" options 1.5--2 weeks before OE to protect gains.

In the next few days, other leaders such as ISRG, CMI, FWLT will catch up. Tomorrow morning could be a pretty good opportunity to load up the port with these leader stocks. Also, some smaller stocks that have been acting strong lately are likely to continue their uptrend and post even bigger gains than the 1-tier guys:

DRYS, NILE, BCSI, NVT, VMW, just to name a few.

This is not a time to be anything less than bullish. Anyone that doubt the bull market or even go short against the trend will regret unless their trades are pure DT speculation. This is a powerful market rally buoyed by solid fundamental reasons, and it will crush anything that comes in its way.

Cong to all AAPL farmers

The last two have been holidays for AAPL farmers -- the long await breakout finally happend right after the OE week, just as we had thought it would. The breakout left a break-away gap on both the daily and the weekly chart, a strog sign that the buying pressure was so prevailing. With the market sentiment being dominantly bullish, it is likely this monstrous leader will snap a 20% gain in the first two weeks of its rally, and if that happens, a $200 stock should it be by year end or early 2008. Here is a chart I posted right before the break out. The second one, also marked up last Friday, is a daily chart with all the OE dates marked with a vertical green line. As you can see, a 2-month run can be expected after a solid 2-month consolidation in July and August.

Thursday, September 20, 20079/20/2007
As planned, today was a "hen day" -- did nothing except for adding a few NYX Oct 80 calls around 72. The market is having a brief consolidation. Many leading stocks broke out of their recent bases on Tue right after FOMC.

Tomorrow is OE day, so I don't expect much action in the market. My plan is still to sit tight with my longs and calls, and hopefully build a position of AAPL calls if the stock dips down to 139-ish intraday. The reason of buying AAPL calls has been discussed in last nights post with chart.

With the indices getting a 2-day consolidation after a super break out day on Tue and a minor follow through on Wed, I expect next week to be an up week for the markets. It's worth noting that NAZ closed the small gap it left yesterday, which I mentioned in last night's post. Hopefuly, we'll see new highs in leaders such as GOOG, AAPL and AMZN in the next week. Tech is clearly the leading sector right now and I would not be surprised if it continues to lead the market's rally into year-end.

To put it simple:
1. Year-end rally is already happening and we have to play aggressively on the long side.
2. Tech leaders are the most worthwile to play in ths round.
3. Buy/call pullback to 9ma and 20ma will be the primary tactic during this uptrend.

The junk stock CRDC broke out as I expect but sold off right after the gap up and closed near the low of day. I probably will sell it in the morning to free up some funds to build call positions in real leaders -- it is not the very best time to flirt around with trash, although this one does look like it is far from done with its up trend. Gotta prioritize.

NYX 9/20/2007

The chart speaks for itself -- it's a real break out. as long as it closes above 72 this week, I see it saying goodbye to the bottome and climb up quickly. entire financials is in a strong come-back, and this sector is reversing. short squeeze is likely to happen soon.

I have Oct 75 and 80 calls bought when stock was trading between 69 and 71.

9/19/2007

A follow through day after the explosive rally across the indices yesterday on Fed cut. From a technical standpoint, Nasdaq has confirmed breakout from a multi head-n-shoulder bottom. A strong reversal chart with decent volumes on the breakout days (yesterday and today). Since OE is this Fri, a pullback to the breakout level (around 2655) will not be surprising. Plus there is a gap up this morning -- NAZ usually doesn't leave gap behind. That gap can be bought a a "buy on re-test" area.

I'm currently fully loaded with leaders such as ISRG, AAPL, GRMN, CMI and AMZN (Oct OTM calls). My strategy here is "doing nothing". I'll simply hold on to these positions and let them run into next week. From the NAZ chart, I read that after the break out is re-tested, there is not much resistance until 2720 area. That's another 2% for the market. The tech leaders that recently made or flirted with new highs should gain much more than that. SIT TIGHT, that's what I'll be reminding myself whenever an intra-day dip happens.

With regard to individual positions, AAPL and ISRG have the strongest weekly charts -- not very far from the 10ma, and decently consolidated for several weeks. CMI might be a little extended. GRMN is probably the weakest -- rising wedge on declining volume. I shall cut GRMN without hesitation when it breaks below my cost. Others I shall hold on to.

The junk stock, CRDC, has dried out on its volume and got pretty darn close to a "dead end" -- the end of the bullish wedge. I'm looking for it to stand above 11 in no more than 3 trading days.

Tuesday, September 18, 20079/18/2007

Market update:
- Today the Fed cut interest rate by 0.5%
- All indices rallied on high volume. Naz gaind 70 and Dow gained 336. Volume on Dow was less impressive than those on SP and NAZ, maybe indicating Tech and Finance are where big moneys flow to
- All indices got pretty close to the previous high, an area with possibly strong resistance. Markets might consolidate before breaking out to new highs. It is OE week this week, and that might be another factor to stop the markets from breaking out right away.

Today's trades:
1. Sold BIDU in the morning at 260. This was a bad trade as this power stock showed no obvious weakness. I sold it too early because there was a second gap up. It kept running and exploded after the FOMC announcement. Will definitely reenter on a decent pullback.

2. Sold CNEH at 3.65. This junk is very extend now. I'm expecting a sharp pull back to 9 even 20 MA after it touches $4.

3. Right after FOMC, I entered 5 positions:
(1) AMZN Oct 95 call when stock was trading at 89 (new high)
(2) CMI at 128 (new high)
(3) ISRG at 221.7 (Break out from a bullish wedge)
(4) GRMN at 106.2 (possible breakout effort from a flat consolidation area)
(5) Added AAPL at 140.71 (this was a little, well, radical)

Lessons Learned:
1. When ShiFu shows definitive confidence in a stock, like BIDU this time around, have FAITH in it and don't jump in and out like a monkey. You are likely to maximize your profit if you just sit tight
2. When markets show technical pattern off having bottomed, or set up for a rally, it does not really matter what the news are. Even the FED could not change Wall Street's plans -- the news are only used by the smart money to make the dumb money hesitate.
3. You need a more reliable broker platform. ST Elite is good but when there is a mass-trading trggering event likely today's FOMC, it gets stuck and good entries points don't work.

Thoughts for Tomnorrow
1. Markets are getting close to resistence, therefore you should take profit on swing trades when we are at resistence.
2. OE will have its effect, which might be a mild consolidation near the highs. Buy calls on Friday or Monday if opporunity is good.

Daily Report for Saturday, Mar 7, 2009March 7, 2009 by Bill Cara
[10:35am ET] Equity markets surged in the final 30 minutes of the Friday session as traders figured a possible “positive surprise” in news over the weekend might catch them short. The February US Jobs Report at 8:30am ET, which was horrible news but close to expectations, did not impact the market as prices opened higher and even rallied a bit to start the session.

Daily Report for Friday, Mar 6, 2009March 6, 2009 by Bill Cara
[11:53am ET] Equity markets on Thursday closed back below 12 year lows as the DJIA index fell -281.4 -4.09% to 6594.44, and the S&P 500 dropped 30.32 (-4.25%) to 682.55. The NASDAQ Composite assumed the same posture, down -54.15 -4.00% to close at 1299.59.
Markets were led by the decline in Financials (XLF -9.4%), with Citigroup (C) closing just above $1. The Banks index ($BKX -11.8%) was crushed. The sell-off in bank stocks was compounded by warnings of possible credit rating downgrades for a couple of the largest ones.

[9:59am ET] The world has lost faith and trust in the parties they have relied on for undivided loyalty. All through the past five years I have focused on the single notion of conflict of interest and fiduciary duty. Daily Report for Thursday, Mar 5, 2009March 5, 2009 by Bill Cara
Daily Report for Thurs., Mar. 5, 2009
[7:57am ET] Equity markets made steady progress on Wednesday as Energy (XLE +4.8%) and Basic Material (XLB) stocks rallied from the opening bell, giving traders hope that an upside move was about to commence. By the end of the session, the DJIA (+149.82 +2.23% to 6875.84, still down from Friday’s 7062.93 close); the S&P 500 (+16.54 +2.38% to 712.87, still down from Friday’s 735.09); and the NASDAQ Composite (+32.73 +2.48% to 1353.74, still down from 1377.84) showed promise.

Daily Report for Wednesday, Mar 4, 2009March 4, 2009 by Bill Cara
[10:13am ET] US equity markets fell once again on Tuesday (S&P cash -0.64%), and futures ended the day priced to decline another -1.5% this morning, but were very strong just prior to the open. Discretion being the better part of valor, traders are still being forced to focus on not losing money, rather than putting on new positions.

[11:09am ET] I discovered today that it is not humanly possible to leave a PDAC hospitality room at 2:00am, cab it home, get up at 6, cab it back, have a conference call with my traders, have four meetings, read mail and get out two blogs by 9:30. Actually, if my brain wasn’t fried, I might have made the attempt.

Cara's Commentary & Community Chat, Mon., Mar. 2, 2009March 2, 2009 by Bill Cara
[11:05am ET] Popularity as a financial blogger typically means influence, which means that people are either for you or against you, and regrettably there is at least one who has been making hack attempts on my server for the past week. The hacker kicked it up a notch today.
Maybe they really didn’t like what I wrote in the latest Week In Review as the comments in Seeking Alpha were as negative to me this WIR as they were positive the previous one.
