An excerpt from FX-Strategy’s Pro Commentary
Price: 1.5202

Resistance:	1.5238	1.5268	1.5297	1.5322

Bias:

There is still no clear signal but I feel the risk is lower - only above 1.5238 sees 1.5268-1.5322

Daily Bullish:	Friday saw a mainly sideways trading range although we did see price reach 1.5238. Until there is a break back below 1.5142-68 we should remember the small chance of a recovery back above 1.5238 above which there are two significant resistance points at 1.5268 and stronger at 1.5315-22. I can’t see these being broken at this time.
MT Bullish:	Having made a deeper review of the long term chart I see initial resistance at 1.5210-20 but overall the picture suggests a minimum target at 1.5268 and probably we’ll see 1.5602-60. 1.49-1.50 supports. (28th February)
Daily Bearish:	A cap seen at 1.5238 on Friday with a bearish divergence – although this is quite weak. However, I still suspect the stronger risk is now lower. Even so, given the strength of the bullish sentiment it will be prudent to take this in steps. To generate another leg lower will require the 1.5228-38 peaks to remain intact followed by a break below 1.5160-70 first followed by 1.5142. Once seen this should cause follow-through to 1.5110. Take care this could cause a pullback. Below 1.5100 extends losses to the 1.5070-80 pivot area.
MT Bearish:	Gains keep coming which means we can raise our reversal point to 1.4872-1.4926. Only below this range would confirm additional losses to 1.4745 which has potential to cause a bounce. Next is 1.4580-00. (3rd March)

ELLIOTT WAVE COMMENTS

29th February

The weekly chart sees a 66.7% Wave –v- projection at 1.5268 and a 76.4% projection at 1.5797. The latter may be too much for the structure since the 1.4437 low.
Yesterday saw a direct move to the 223.6% projection in Wave –iii- at 1.5210-19 and where Wave –c- has projected by 176.4%.

Now there is risk that we’ve seen the peak of Wave –iii- at yesterday’s high but it’s also close to the weekly 1.5268 target. Also the 261.8% projection in Wave –iii- is at 1.5322 so keep this in mind. If seen today it should provoke a larger pullback in Wave –iv-.

If we see a direct pullback in Wave –iv- keep in mind the prior Wave b at 1.5110 with a 38.2%-41.4% pullback at 1.4973-93.
50% is at 1.4921 – I doubt this target.

Non-Trend Lines02 29th, 2008
Some trend lines are figments of the imagination No, no, there’re no such things as non trend lines. It’s more that many analysts tend to try and invent them.
I was looking through some analysis the other day and I saw something rather like this:

It sure looks impressive but actually none of those lines actually produce any real information – except they prove that the lines were broken after they were drawn. Before that the lines are so flaky that it is often pure luck if they work…
Now I wouldn’t mind so much but there are no trends at all in that chart which makes the process of drawing a trend line rather fruitless… What’s more, in nearly all cases there are so many lines drawn it’s a wonder that anyone knows what they mean or how to trade them.
Take a look at this same chart:

Very clearly the first raising black “trend” line was drawn after the event. Or maybe it wasn’t but then whoever drew the line would have presumably drawn the one in red also. That ended up as a complete mess as price broke below the line, then back up and then reversed lower again. What use is that?
The blue line isn’t even drawn on a trend…
Trend lines are there to help you make trades and identify stop losses. It is therefore important to understand when to draw a trend line and what it is telling you.
(1) First of all is a very simple rule that will make you look differently at price.
Uptrend = A sequence of higher highs and higher lows
Downtrend = A sequence of lower lows and lower highs
Until you get this you don’t have a trend. To be honest some of the moves in the chart did see just those characteristics. However, you wouldn’t draw a trend line on the daily chart but on the hourly or 4-hourly. In that way it would be useful.
Consider the blue line in the chart. It has been drawn across three peaks but not all rising/falling and the swing lows are erratic as well. It isn’t a trend.
(2) You can only put more trust in a trend line once it has touched the price extreme 3 times or more. Think of it. How many lines could you draw if you only had to allow for two touches? Goodness knows – but a heck of a lot.
Seriously, relying on a trend line which has only seen two touches (and one of those from an extreme on the chart) is very, very risky.
(3) Don’t expect to draw many trend lines. I draw very few as there are a limited number that actually provide any good trading opportunities. If you can see rising lows and highs (or vice versa) but there is no way you can link three lows, then don’t do it. What good will it do? Rely then on break of the last major low (or high.)
(4) A good trend line will provide you with a clear trading opportunity and possibly two. When a correctly drawn trend line breaks it will do so, see follow-through and in the correction back to test the trend line. You can trade on the first breach and again on the trend line retest.

Look at how the uptrend prior to the consolidation touched price on 4 occasions and on breach it dipped then moved back high to retest the trend line from where we saw a sizeable decline.
Make life easy for yourself and use trend lines with reason and logic. It’ll help profitability greatly.

There does seem risk of an upward correction – only below 0.9692 extends to 0.9628

Daily Bullish:	No break of 0.9831 and this allowed losses to just above the 0.9692 support. With a bullish divergence formed there is a risk of a correction higher. We do still need to allow for a fuller test of 0.9692 but while this holds the correction becomes more likely. An earlier break above 0.9806 would produce gains to 0.9830 minimum and if this gives way then expect a deeper pullback to 0.9853 and probably 0.9883. However, this should hold. Only above 0.9913 is more bullish.
MT Bullish:	With a further sharp decline we shall need a move back above 0.9931 and 1.000 to generate any meaningful gains. Watch resistance at 1.0038 also. (27th February)
Daily Bearish:	Losses seen as expected though these didn’t quite reach the preferred 0.9292 target. With a bullish divergence having developed any bearish stance will need to be confirmed and this would only come on a break of the 0.9692 support. If seen then the downside will be open to the 0.9628 target.
MT Bearish:	We have seen losses develop to the old 0.9755 low and now while 0.9907-32 caps we should see losses resume towards 0.9692 at a minimum and I suspect further to 0.9628 at least – possibly 0.9560. (28th February)

ELLIOTT WAVE COMMENTS

27th February
Losses have been seen to 0.9782 and I suspect this may have been Wave iii of Wave (c). A 50% correction in Wave iv would imply peak at 1.9910 but given the very brief Wave ii we should allow for a 58.6% retracement at 0.9931.
From there a move to the wave equality target in Wave (c) at 0.9692 is expected.

While 0.9460-85 caps we should see a pullback at least

Daily Bullish:	Price maintained its upward momentum to break above 0.9399 and come to a halt just below the next target at 0.9460. A bearish divergence has developed and should imply a correction at the very least. Indeed, any pullback should be viewed as a correction only. Thus only directly above 0.9460-85 would cause extension higher through 0.9499 and to 0.9545. Take care as this could cap.
MT Bullish:	The 0.9460 has stalled progress but it doesn’t look as if the larger rally has peaked. Thus while 0.9236-53 area supports we should see further gains above 0.9460 for 0.9545 minimum and at most 0.9685. (28th February)
Daily Bearish	Having reached the 0.9460 resistance amid a bearish divergence I do feel a correction is likely. Do be aware of the small risk of seeing 0.9477-85 first. However, the main direction should be lower today with a breach of 0.9403-08triggering follow-through to 0.9365 which should cause a small reaction. Overall though I still feel the downside has a little way to go with loss of 0.9365 seeing a move down to 0.9332, 0.9300 and over time to 0.9236-53.
MT Bearish:	We should be seeing further gains but in the meantime we are likely to see a correction to 0.9236-53 at the most. Thus only below here would cause direct losses to 0.9190 – probably lower. (28th February)

ELLIOTT WAVE COMMENTS

28th February

The break above 0.9399 means that the 0.8511 low was a corrective low and thus we are seeing what I feel is a 3-wave rally. The Wave equality target in Wave (c) is at yesterday’s 0.9460 high. However, I also note that 0.9477 is a 261.8% projection in Wave –iii-.

Thus we should now see a correction in Wave-iv- that should be quite shallow given Wave –ii- was deep. This should keep the retracement to the 38.2%-41.4% retracement area between 0.9236-53. Also note the last Wave b support at 0.9365 which should produce a reaction of some kind.

I suspect a key high has been seen and thus expect losses to 159.50-60

Daily Bullish:	The 161.41 target has been reached and with a bearish divergence in the hourly chart. One concern is this was not seen in the 4-hour chart. Thus only back above 160.70-80 would provide a further lift back towards 161.10 and then the 161.39 high. Further resistance is then seen at 161.82 and 162.36.
MT Bullish:	Price achieved the higher target at 161.41 and it is possible that we have seen a major peak. Therefore only back above there would risk 162.36 and possibly as high as 163.14 and 164.22. (27th February)
Daily Bearish:	The 161.41 target was reached with a bearish divergence having formed. Thus we should look more at the downside. Initial support is around 160.31 and this may well hold the initial decline. Thus only breach would extend to the 160.00-10 area and possibly down to the 159.40-50 pivot support. Also note support at 158.90.
MT Bearish:	As we move above 158.95 we should watch for signs of exhaustion around 160.34-88 and max 161.30-41. Look for a bearish divergence to develop and if so we should see a reversal lower. (20th February)

ELLIOTT WAVE COMMENTS

26th February
The upward momentum has taken price to the 61.8%-66.7% projection in minor Wave v between 160.34-54. A 76.4% projection lies at 161.41.

Wave equality in Wave –c- also lies at 161.41 so there is a strong argument to expect a test there.

Once this rally completes and with bearish divergences forming these could occur at any time we must be aware of the risk of a reversal lower.

While 107.55-84 supports there should be room for gains to 108.90 else see a drop to 106.95

Daily Bullish:	The break back above the 107.56 provided a solid lift which has reached 108.21 thus far. While 107.55-84 supports we should see this move further. Take care at 108.48 as this could cause a slightly deeper pullback. Breach extends to 108.90-98 but this is expected to cap if seen. Next resistance is then found at 109.36 and stronger at 109.80-84.
MT Bullish:	Gains have continued to be very slow but I retain a bullish stance for 109.80 minimum and probably just above 110.00 but whether it can get to 110.94 is uncertain with the next leg lower expected to begin. (26th February)
Daily Bearish:	Yesterday saw gains as preferred and I suspect these should continue. The only risk is if we see a breach of the 107.55 level which would tend to undermine the direct rally and cause slippage to 107.10-20 at least and potentially 106.75-95. This should hold. Only below reverses once again for 105.69 and eventually 104.95.
MT Bearish:	So far we have seen the pullbacks remains above 106.33 but I have seen one other scenario that would still allow 105.34-69. Thus only below this area would trigger direct losses through 104.95 to 103.44. (25th February)

Wave relationships haven’t been that great and it means we still need to watch this erratic currency pair closely.

If Friday’s 106.71 was the end of Wave b then we need a break back above the minor Wave iv of Wave c of Wave b at 107.56. If seen it should then trigger gains in Wave c higher towards the wave equality target at 108.90-98 which is where Wave B will have retraced by 41.4%

The other structure is a possible expanded flat in Wave x and this would imply a move back to the 105.69 Wave efa low – maybe just below before seeing gains.
Until then keep in mind the 50% retracement in Wave B at 109.80 and the 61.8% retracement at 110.94.

Bias:

While 1.0876-97 caps there is still risk of losses to 1.0805-13 before the anticipated stronger rally

Daily Bullish:	Losses did develop down into the 1.0813-54 area and we therefore need to be aware that a direct resumption of the upside is possible. I tend to feel that we need just one more low which should reach the 1.0805-13 area and if seen this should provide a good buying opportunity. Only an earlier break above 1.0897 and the 1.0916 corrective high would imply a direct recovery that should then proceed towards 1.0955-70 and probably make its way all the way to the 1.1042 area.
MT Bullish:	The correction from 1.1106 has been a lot more erratic than expected and may even get back to 1.0811-54. However, I remain overall bullish and will look for a return to 1.1106-20 and later higher. (22nd February)
Daily Bearish:	The downside did prove the weaker side on Friday and fell between the two potential support areas at 1.0813 and 1.0854. However, until the 1.0897-1.0916 area is broken we should be aware of the risk of a final dip to the 1.0805-13 area which I suspect will hold. Thus any stronger bearish stance will require a breach of the 1.0800 level and if seen then look for losses to 1.0785 and probably 1.0760-65 which could stall the decline before a test of the 1.0728 low.
MT Bearish:	The recovery from 1.0728 appears positive and while Friday’s pullback was deep it still holds within a bullish structure. Thus only below 1.0854 & 1.0817 triggers stronger losses back towards 1.0728 again. (19th February)

ELLIOTT WAVE COMMENTS

22nd February

This Wave (b) has been pretty choppy and the actual internal count is very clouded. However, I suspect that we should be seeing a 5-wave decline from yesterday’s 1.1032 high.

We still need to be careful as there is a bullish divergence developing in the 4-hour chart though the hourly still looks bearish.

If yesterday’s 1.0865 low was a Wave iii then the maximum I’d expect in Wave iv would be at 1.0938. Thus the next decline should be Wave v and we can then watch the 66.7% retracement in Wave (b) at 1.0854 and then the 76.4% at 1.0811-17.

The top should be met soon – max 1.4866-00 but any drop below 1.4750-70 would see direct losses

Daily Bullish:	Pretty close to perfect yesterday with the initial rally stalling just below 1.4755 but then the pullback stalled at 1.4700 and didn’t get back to 1.4665-85. However, we have seen price reach the minimum target at 1.4836 amid a bearish divergence. The full target is at 1.4866 and at most 1.4901. While 1.4771 (max 1.4750) supports the upside is still favored to the 1.4866-00 target area. This should complete the move. Thus only a clean break above 1.49 will imply a move back to the 1.4966 high.
MT Bullish:	We have toyed with the preferred 1.4695 resistance but only above here would imply a retest at 1.4756 and probably 1.4835-66. However, I think that should be the most we see else expect 1.4966 again. (19th February)
Daily Bearish:	We are close to a selling opportunity. While the 1.4750-71 area supports a further test of the 1.4866 (max 1.4901) area is implied. As long as the bearish divergence still exists (it’s there in the 4-hour chart also) we should see a firmer reversal lower. An earlier break below 1.4750 would confirm. There is then modest support at 1.4700-10 which should stall the initial decline. Thus only below there provides a stronger reaction towards 1.4637 and below.
MT Bearish:	The recovery has been deeper than expected and thus points to a 1.45-1.4866 range. While 1.4866-86 caps we should see losses but we’ll have to wait for breach of 1.4480-00 to confirm larger losses. (20th February)

ELLIOTT WAVE COMMENTS

21st February

Watch carefully. The decline to 1.4618 came in 3 waves and until the 1.4728 resistance is broken it could still cause a triangle to develop. Any earlier move to 1.4755 would suggest a new ABC pattern and thus a correction in Wave b before Wave c should attack the 1.4835-66 target. The only other risk is a flat correction – up to 1.4755 & back to 1.4618.
